Truth About AJ Styles & Ex-WWE Diva Rumor Finally Revealed

AJ Styles Rumor Finally Addressed

A former WWE Diva has finally revealed the full truth about a long-standing rumor involving her and AJ Styles.

Christy Hemme joined WWE in 2004 after winning the Diva Search competition. Nevertheless, her run was brief as she left the promotion only a year later.

The 45-year-old then joined TNA Wrestling, where she competed for four years before retiring from in-ring competition. Since then, rumors suggested she hung up her boots after sustaining an injury while training with AJ Styles.

Christy Hemme Clears AJ Styles’ Name

During a recent interview with SoCal Val on The Velvet Ropes, Christy Hemme was asked about the long-running rumor. The former Diva Search winner addressed it for the first time, disclosing that it was false.

Hemme revealed the real story behind her career-ending injury, pointing out that it happened during a match against Awesome Kong.

I remember I was in a match with Kong. I got thrown into the turnbuckle and going numb from the neck down. I remember it like, ‘What was that? Oh my gosh.’ And then I came out of it, and then I got thrown again in the turnbuckle and it happened again. It was stuck a little bit longer. And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ I just remember thinking, this is really serious.

And so when I came backstage afterwards, I told Brad Holman, this is our doctor… I said, ‘I’m feeling this thing in my neck or my head or my back.’ So immediately it was like, we got to get an MRI.

And that’s when I went and got my MRI, and I had two protrusions in my spine that were sitting on my spine. You can’t wrestle with that. Like that’s the kind of thing where if I had been thrown a little harder, which is not my opponent’s fault by the way, how are you to know if that’s happening inside a body? But if I had been thrown harder, it could have severed my spine and I’d be paralyzed. So I had to stop completely.

And so that’s how it happened. I don’t know why we undramatized that story and made it a training story. [H/T: WrestlingNewsCo]

Hemme also recalled AJ Styles’ reaction to the rumor, disclosing that he was surprised to be blamed for ending her career.

Poor AJ. He’s like, ‘Why do I have to be the one who was training you and ending your career?’
