Paul “Triple H” Levesque was handed WWE’s creative reins in September 2022.

While his first couple of years as the Stamford promotion’s Chief Content Officer were praised by the fans and critics, reception toward the storylines has changed drastically since 2025.

Viewers who watched both seasons of WWE: Unreal got an insight into Levesque’s backstage role and how everyday interactions look for him with his team of writers.

It goes without saying that his job comes with a great deal of pressure, especially considering the product he creates is critiqued by fans worldwide.

Recent comments by Dave Meltzer reveal the pressures of the job and how difficult Triple H’s role is on a daily basis.

Speaking during a recent Wrestling Observer Radio session, Meltzer said the following:

Yeah, yeah, it’s a giant issue. He’s, he’s, you know, I mean, I, you know, I mean, everyone’s different, and I think he needs it, you know, or right now in his life, he needs it. I think it’s super hard. I know that it’s got to be stressful.

Meltzer also touched upon the risks associated with the job due to Levesque’s past heart issues. However, he also highlighted how long-standing Levesque’s relationship is with the wrestling industry.

The job itself is incredibly stressful. He has had heart issues.

It was kind of like the idea was just like, he’s rich beyond belief. He doesn’t, you know, he’s got a bad heart. He’s got kids, you know, I mean, it was almost like, why would he want to do it? But in fact, he did want to do it, you know, because it’s, it’s in his blood, you know, without a doubt, it’s in his blood deep.

Triple H Well-Respected By Peers Backstage

Triple H has been associated with the wrestling business since 1992 and debuted with World Championship Wrestling in 1994. His journey with the then-World Wrestling Federation started in 1995, and he has never looked back ever since.

During his tenure as a wrestler, he became a 14-time World Champion. Many wrestlers on the current roster idolize him, and he is well-respected by everyone behind the scenes.

Dave Meltzer discussed how Triple H leads by example, for which many praise him as a strong leader.

He has a lot of respect among most of the talent, especially the ones who came through NXT who think he’s like, they’re, you know, they’re Vince McMahon, their father figure, you know, without the Vince McMahon baggage.

He also added that not everyone backstage is always happy with the progression of their storyline, which adds pressure to Levesque’s job.

Even though there’s, you know, always going to be issues when you have a roster of many, many people, some of whom are being used well, that might be happy but think that they could be used better… and then others who are sure they’re better than their spot.

Triple H has previously spoken about facing issues with certain talents backstage, stating that a lack of patience on their part can become frustrating at times.

WWE’s next major event is Backlash, scheduled on May 9.
