In the case of Kingston and Woods, they refused to restructure their contracts and take a pay cut, deciding to mutually part ways with the Stamford-based promotion instead.

On the latest edition of Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash was asked whether The New Day members made the right call by leaving WWE. He replied in the affirmative and added that both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are his friends.

Absolutely. They made their choice. Both of those guys have been there 16-17 years. Slap in the face. Both of those guys are my friends. [H/T: Fightful]

AJ Styles comments on The New Day’s WWE exit

While speaking on a recent edition of the Phenomenally Retro podcast, AJ Styles didn’t do a deep dive into reports surrounding Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ WWE exit. He, however, said both of them are “smart guys” and most likely saved a lot of money.

I couldn’t tell you if that’s true or not (reports of them asking for their release after not taking a pay cut). They’re smart guys who did well and I’m sure saved their money. So if they weren’t happy with whatever, then it wouldn’t surprise me they’d go, ‘Okay, we’ll just go do our own thing.’

The Phenomenal One then heaped more praise on Woods and Kingston before admitting that he is bummed out with their departures.

They’re freaking brilliant guys. They’re awesome guys. I can’t say enough positive things. These are the guys you want to hang out with… Man, it kind of bums me out a little bit cause everybody loves them.

It remains to be seen what moves Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods make in the foreseeable future.
