Triple H apparently wants to have fewer matches at this year’s WrestleMania 39 event, according to a new report.

With WrestleMania 39 coming in just about five weeks’ time, the card is starting to take shape for the biggest WWE event of the year taking place at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd.

There have been plenty of stories about matches being planned months in advance while others have apparently changed over the last week or two. As of right now, three matches are official.

* Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

* SmackDown Women’s Title Charlotte Flair vs Rhea Ripley

* Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair vs. Asuka

Several other matches are considered locks to take place including Austin Theory defending the US Title against John Cena and Seth “Freakin” Rollins facing Logan Paul.

Some of the other matches are likely going to be Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler challenging for the Women’s Tag Team Titles perhaps against Becky Lynch & Lita if they win them on Raw, GUNTHER defending the Intercontinental Title vs. Drew McIntyre (with Sheamus potentially being added to it), Bobby Lashley vs. Bray Wyatt, Brock Lesnar vs. Omos and The Usos defending the Tag Team Titles against Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens.

A new report from WrestlingNews.co notes that WWE’s Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque wants a smaller card at WrestleMania 39 this year. Since Triple H is running the main roster creatively for the first time in his career, he wants to put his own stamp on it.

The report also states that some people that were spoken to regarding the show were not happy about likely being left off the WrestleMania card this year. There is also a remark about some unhappiness on the roster due to some spots on the show being for legends and celebrities.

In past years, WWE did battle royals to try to include more people, but that’s likely not happening this year.

Last year’s WrestleMania 38 event in Dallas had 7 matches on night one and 9 matches on night two for a total of 16 matches. Two of the night two matches were kept under two minutes.

WrestleMania 37 taking place in Tampa in 2021 had 14 matches total with 7 matches on each night.

The first two-night WrestleMania was WM36 in 2020, which had no fans in attendance due to the Coronavirus pandemic. That one had 9 matches on night one and 7 matches on night two for a total of 16 matches.

What this means is if WWE decides to have less matches then perhaps they go with 12 total matches or even less instead of the 16 matches they had last year.
