A recently departed WWE legend, who is close with Triple H, could be joining AEW down the road.

There was a shakeup in the WWE Creative Team over the past week. The WWE Creative Team is led by Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who is a WWE Hall of Famer and a wrestling legend who has run the creative since July 2022.

The “Road Dogg” Brian James is also a WWE Hall of Famer as part of the D-Generation X group that included Triple H. For most of the last 15 years, Road Dogg has had a behind-the-scenes role in WWE as a member of the creative team and was also a Lead Writer on SmackDown recently.

However, Road Dogg quit WWE this past week after not liking his performance review, among other things. People in the company could tell it was coming since Road Dogg expressed frustrations to them.

A guy like Road Dogg, who is close with Triple H, leaving WWE could be seen as a significant blow to the company.

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff discussed it on his 83 Weeks podcast and said Dogg will likely make public appearances at conventions and similar events.

“You know, Road Dogg could probably stay busy three or four weekends a month if he wanted to. But that kind of schedule isn’t easy. It’s fun at first, but traveling every single week can become a grind.”

“Maybe Road Dogg is used to that and maybe he’d enjoy doing it because once you get over that initial hump, you start realizing how fun those appearances can be. And a guy like Road Dogg could make a significant amount of money doing them.”

Road Dogg Could Be An Asset To AEW After Leaving WWE

During his wrestling career, Road Dogg’s greatest success came in WWE as part of the New Age Outlaws tag team with “Bad A$$” Billy Gunn. While Gunn worked behind the scenes in WWE in the past, he has worked for AEW since it launched in early 2019 as a coach. Gunn’s two sons, Austin & Colten, work for AEW as wrestlers.

As Eric Bischoff continued talking about Road Dogg’s post-WWE life, he suggested that Dogg could be an asset to AEW’s Tony Khan.

“If he still wants to stay involved in creative, personally I’d love to see him sit down with Tony Khan because he’s exactly the kind of person Tony Khan needs. Now, I don’t think that’s going to happen based on what I’ve heard about Tony and the way he likes to run things. That kind of fit might not work.

But Road Dogg is definitely someone who could help a company like AEW. If I were AEW and trying to strengthen the product, one of the first things I’d do is improve the creative side. Someone like Road Dogg could help with the weaknesses and flaws in the storytelling.

Hopefully Tony eventually decides to take a different approach to the business, because Road Dogg could help him a lot. Bringing him in would be a smart move, and it could make Tony look good by strengthening the creative direction of the company.”

“Road Dogg” Brian James has yet to publicly comment on his departure and his future.
