Top WWE Star Outsells John Cena Merchandise

john cena never give up

John Cena is back on WWE television, but there is another superstar that has recently been selling merchandise better than Mr. “Never Give Up.”

When John Cena made his return to WWE Smackdown last week on September 1st, he was rocking the new “Never Give Up” merchandise in light blue and orange colors. Cena also appeared one night later at WWE Payback as the referee of LA Knight’s victory over The Miz.

Prior to that match between LA Knight and The Miz, there was a funny line from The Miz about how Cena is nearly 50 years old (he is 47 years old, for the record) yet he still dresses like a Teletubby. Cena nodded to acknowledge that The Miz was making a fair point.

Despite Cena’s return to WWE television, it has been reported by Fightful Select that Cody Rhodes topped the list of merchandise sellers at Payback, ahead of Cena. It was considered a rarity because Cena’s merchandise continues to do great numbers, especially when new merchandise is dropped.

As for rising babyface star LA Knight, he was third among individual superstars. It was noted by Fightful that many of Knight’s sales had previously been online and via Fanatics, but WWE has been bringing more Knight merchandise to their shows due to his growing popularity.

We have reported recently that Knight has either signed a new long-term contract with WWE or is close to doing so. That has led to more TV time for Knight, who got to do a promo on Smackdown along with a two-segment match where he beat Austin Theory.

John Cena Segment Announced For September 15th WWE Smackdown

There was no John Cena sighting on WWE Smackdown last night in Boston (his hometown) because he was wrestling at the Superstar Spectacle event in India. It was Cena’s first time wrestling in India as he teamed up with World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins to beat Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci.

During Smackdown last night, it was announced that Cena will be a guest on the Grayson Waller Effect talk show hosted by Grayson Waller. It won’t be their first interaction since Waller interrupted Cena at Money in the Bank in July, which led to Cena dropping Waller with an Attitude Adjustment.

In addition to next week’s episode, Cena is expected to be on Smackdown every Friday for the rest of September and into October as well.
