Another Top AEW Star Dealing With Significant Injury
One of AEW’s biggest names could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
According to a new report from Fightful Select, Swerve Strickland is dealing with a torn meniscus, which could require surgery.
Incredibly, Strickland suffered the injury back in 2019 while training at the WWE Performance Center during his spell with the company. At the time, Strickland stepped away from the ring for four weeks before resuming training.
In recent weeks, the former AEW World Champion has been working with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ medical staff in an effort to keep performing, but he could now require surgery. Strickland had been scheduled to take time off following All In on July 12, but those plans were ultimately changed.
At Forbidden Door, Swerve Strickland is set to challenge Kazuchika Okada for the Unified Title. The championship was created at All In after Continental Champion Okada beat International Champion Kenny Omega.
Top AEW Star To Miss Several Months
Unfortunately, there’s also some bad news surrounding another one of the company’s biggest stars. According to a new report, Will Ospreay is on the brink of major neck surgery. The British star is expected to go under the knife in “the near future.”
A comment many have taken to mean shortly after Forbidden Door. At the event, Ospreay is set to take part in an Unsanctioned Lights Out Steel Cage match where he’ll team with Darby Allin, Kenny Omega, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kota Ibushi.
Back in July, Ospreay announced on Dynamite that he was dealing with two herniated discs pressing on his spinal cord. It was subsequently reported that Will Ospreay’s injury was “worse than first thought.”
Although only an estimate, it’s been claimed that Ospreay could be out of action for over a year as a result of the surgery.
