Tony Khan On Former WWE Stars: “I Don’t Believe I’m Allowed To Talk To Them”
The AEW President, Tony Khan finally broke silence on former WWE stars who recently departed and are rumored to join the Jacksonville-based promotion. The stars in discussion are Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.
Fans and the wrestling community were shocked after Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day departed the WWE recently. It was reported that Kingston and Woods refused to take a pay cut, which was offered to them by TKO. Following their surprising departure, many people believe that the New Day will be joining AEW.
In a recent interview, the top AEW star, Swerve Strickland was asked whether he wants Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to sign with All Elite Wrestling. Swerve said he absolutely wants that while also admitting that the New Day would do what’s best for them, whether it’s taking a hiatus or anything:
Of course. Absolutely. I also just want them to do what’s best for them. If they want to take a five-year hiatus, they’ve earned it. They’ve more than earned it. They know their value as well, and that’s the most important thing. I hope that’s the lesson that everybody learns in this, not just as a fan but a professional as yourself in this industry. They know their value. They understand who they are. They understand what they bring, what they brought and their legacy they leave behind,” Swerve stated.
Tony Khan on the New Day’s potential AEW signing
During the ROH Supercard of Honor post-show, Tony Khan was asked about the idea of the New Day signing with AEW. Khan said that he couldn’t comment on wrestlers who have contractual obligations, and he is not allowed to talk to them right now, while declaring them as great wrestlers:
I cannot comment, or I don’t think I should comment on wrestlers that still have a contractual obligation. As I understand it, I believe they are still obligated, and I don’t believe I’m allowed to talk to them. As such, I don’t feel it would be right to comment on them under the circumstances except to say that I think they are great wrestlers,” Khan stated. [H/T Fightful]
Fans will have to wait and see if Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods will be signed by Tony Khan to AEW after they will be free from their WWE contract.
