The Shield May Reunite Over Hatred Of Major WWE Star
The Shield may reunite again in WWE.
The Shield was one of the most dominant factions in WWE during the early 2010s. Seth Rollins betrayed Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose on June 2, 2014, during Monday Night Raw, joining Triple H and The Authority, which led to the group’s breakup. The faction later had short-lived reunions in October 2017 and August 2018.
Former Shield member Roman Reigns won this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match and chose CM Punk as his opponent for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. During a Raw promo, Reigns revealed that he chose Punk because he hates him.
While CM Punk has many rivals in WWE, another star who is known for hating Punk’s guts is Roman’s former Shield brother, Seth Rollins.
The Shield Could Reunite To Take Down A Mutual Enemy, CM Punk
On the latest edition of the Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts read a fan email suggesting that the ex-Shield members Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins could put their differences aside to reunite over their mutual dislike of Punk.
Roberts responded that it is totally possible:
I hadn’t thought of it, but I think it’s worth thinking about for sure. The idea that, like Seth Rollins says, he hates CM Punk. He said it’s different with him and Roman. Him and Roman are brothers that do things differently, but he hates CM Punk. Roman says, “I hate CM Punk.”
Almost like The Shield got together and knew that they hated this guy. Could true hatred of CM Punk be the one thing that bind Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns together? That could be a really fascinating, interesting twist on this whole thing that I would really, really enjoy. (From 57:00)
If a Shield reunion were to happen again, it would be missing Dean Ambrose, as he is currently with AEW under the ring name Jon Moxley. According to reports, Moxley is under contract with AEW through late 2027.
