The New Day’s AEW Arrival All But Confirmed Following WWE Exit
The New Day is one of the most popular tag teams to come out of WWE in the last decade. The trio of Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods got extremely over with the crowd shortly after their debut as a team, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Following Big E’s injury and his transition into a non-wrestling role, the group even had one of the most iconic heel turns in recent times. However, WWE failed to build on the buzz that Kofi and Woods’ heel turn created.
They went on to win a couple of more tag team championships after turning heel, but their reigns didn’t feature anything of note. Despite lack of interesting storylines, Kofi and Woods were one of WWE’s longest-serving members of the roster.
That all changed last month, though, after both of them decided to mutually part ways with WWE. As part of the annual post-WrestleMania budget cuts, it was reported that the duo were asked to take a major pay cut, but instead opted to be released from their deals.
Former WWE Tag Team Champions might be headed to AEW
Ever since they left the Stamford-based promotion, speculation is rife that one of the most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling might become All Elite, sooner rather than later.
Both Kofi and Xavier share a good relationship with AEW’s Young Bucks, and the EVPs of the promotion, seemingly hinted that the duo might be on their way to AEW.
Matt and Nick Jackson were live on YouTube the other day, when a fan asked them if they were afraid of the New Day. While they beat around the bush and didn’t intentionally bring up Kofi or Woods, their response seemed like the duo might become All Elite.
I’m never afraid, I wake up every day with a fresh cup of coffee, I’m never afraid about the New Day. When there’s a New Day, I’m excited,” said the Young Bucks
The New Day also have to serve a 90-day non-compete clause following their WWE release and have only served little over a month till now. AEW would be extra cautious regarding the clause this time, after what transpired with Andrade last time.
