Stephanie McMahon Suddenly Calls Top WWE Champion “B+ Player” Ahead Of WrestleMania 42
The WWE Hall of Fame ceremony opened with a bang, and Stephanie McMahon cut a full heel speech in character. She ended her speech by referencing the infamous “B+ Player” line.
The WrestleMania 42 weekend kicked off in a big way in Las Vegas. As always, the Hall of Fame ceremony set the tone before the chaos of the main shows.
The 2026 Hall of Fame ceremony took place on April 17 at Dolby Live at Park MGM, just one night before WrestleMania 42. Stephanie McMahon and AJ Styles headlined the class this year. The Billion Dollar Princess was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by her mother, Linda McMahon, and her three daughters tonight.
Fans expected a heartfelt speech, and they got one. But they didn’t expect a throwback to one of WWE’s most iconic promos.
Stephanie McMahon drops the “B+ Player” bomb on the current WWE United States Champion
At the end of her speech, Stephanie McMahon stepped out from behind the podium and cut a promo as her on-screen heel character, demanding everyone stand up and bask in her glory. Then came the line nobody saw coming.
She invoked the infamous “B+ Player” label, originally popularized as a jab at Daniel Bryan during the 2013 Authority storyline, and this time targeted it directly at current WWE United States Champion Sami Zayn, catching the Las Vegas crowd completely off guard.

The callback landed perfectly. Fans who lived through the Authority era knew exactly what the label meant, and firing it at Zayn, who is set to defend the US Championship against Trick Williams on Night Two of WrestleMania 42, gave the moment both comedic weight and genuine edge.
The callback worked as both a nod to WWE history and a cheeky way to keep her character alive even during a Hall of Fame speech. Sami Zayn has spent his entire career earning respect the hard way. He won the United States Championship by answering Carmelo Hayes’ open challenge on the March 27 episode of SmackDown – a defining moment that capped a remarkable Road to WrestleMania.
It will be interesting to see if Zayn can retain his title at The Show of Shows.
