Saraya opened up about showcasing her family at AEW All In after years of not being allowed to acknowledge them.

Years after being told she had to retire due to severe neck issues, Saraya made her AEW debut at Grand Slam in September of 2022. Her first in-ring bout would come at Full Gear the following November, where she defeated Britt Baker.

In front of a record-breaking crowd inside Wembley Stadium, Saraya emerged victorious in a fatal four way match and earned herself her first taste of championship gold in All Elite Wrestling when she was crowned the new AEW Women’s Champion.

To make her celebration even more special, the new champion was accompanied by her family, including mother Sweet Saraya and father Ricky Knight. A fictional version of the Knight family’s journey in wrestling was chronicled in the movie Fighting With My Family.

“I Wasn’t Allowed To Acknowledge Them” – Saraya

Speaking at a media scrum following All Out, the new champion opened up about getting the chance to showcase her wrestling family in her home country, revealing that she wasn’t allowed to acknowledge her family lineage in WWE until Fighting With My Family debuted.

“They were never given the opportunity in the past to be showcased. They were never acknowledged, and I wasn’t allowed to acknowledge them until the movie came out, and then I was allowed to. Tony didn’t even question it. He was like, ‘let’s f*cking go, yeah. We can have your family.’

“They appreciated it so much. My dad was so emotional. My dad is not a crier, he’s very rough around the edges kind of guy. Missing teeth because of all the fighting back in the day. He was crying his eyes out in the ring. It was such a special moment to be around my family. They loved every single second of it.”
