The penultimate match of WWE Royal Rumble 2026 saw Drew McIntyre make his first defense of the Undisputed WWE Championship against long-time rival Sami Zayn.

The event had already witnessed Liv Morgan make history by winning the Women’s Royal Rumble for the first time in her career. Meanwhile, the Ring General added another victim to his list.

He defeated AJ Styles in the latter’s final WWE match and ended the career of another legend of the business. Fans were shocked after AJ’s loss and needed a morale-boosting win from Sami Zayn.

Drew McIntyre retains the Undisputed WWE Championship

Zayn headed into the match with three goals in his mind as he listed last night on SmackDown. He intended to pick up his first victory against Drew McIntyre, having lost to him the previous 11 times.

In the process, he intended to become a World Champion and continue his winning streak in Saudi Arabia. Drew dominated much of the match as he ragdolled Zayn around the ring.

Both men got a nearfall each following their finisher as Drew hit Sami with a Claymore, but Zayn put his foot on the rope just in time. He followed that up with a Helluva Kick of his own, but took time to get the cover, allowing Drew to kick out.

McIntyre recovered and put Zayn through the announce table with a huge powerbomb and followed that up with two Claymore Kicks to his face to retain the title and end Sami’s winning streak in Saudi Arabia.
