Truth Revealed On Retired Ex-WWE Champion’s Potential In-Ring Return
Ex-WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Sonya Deville officially retired in July 2025.
Deville was released from WWE on February 7, 2025, when the company chose not to renew her contract after a decade with the company. After leaving WWE, she officially retired from in‑ring competition and shifted her focus to mixed martial arts, fitness, mental health advocacy, and building a personal brand.
She recently returned to the wrestling world on January 15, 2026, on Thursday Night Impact!’s AMC debut, where she was introduced as the Director of Operations. After she made her TNA debut, fans started wondering if she’d resume her in-ring journey as well.
Ex-WWE Star Sonya Deville Not Planning To Make Her In-Ring Return
Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful’s Q&A podcast recently provided some answers, stating that Deville will only play a non-wrestling authority figure role in TNA for now.
“From what I heard, she’s supposed to be a non-wrestling authority figure. She said recently that she’s pretty well retired from in-ring competition.”
“She has a good relationship with TNA’s parent company, Anthem, and got brought in to do some stuff with their Invicta FC MMA promotion.”
“She’s going to be a good on-screen character that eventually, if she decides to, she could work as well. But I have not heard anything indicating that she would.”
This is not the first time Sonya played a managerial role. She was appointed as the assistant to on-screen authority figure Adam Pearce on the SmackDown brand on January 1, 2021, when she returned to WWE TV after a “Loser Leaves WWE” match against Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020 had written her off television.
