Report: AJ Styles Losing US Title To Kevin Owens At WWE Battleground Was Last Minute Decision
AJ Styles was originally scheduled to defeat Kevin Owens at this past Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view to retain the United States Championship. It was still the plan once Battleground began. However, at some point during the show, the decision was made for Styles to lose the United States Title to Owens. This is according to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.
It is also worth noting that Styles stayed in the ring after his loss longer than expected. A Twitter user named Anthony that attended Battleground tweeted a photo of Styles still hanging around in the ring during the Jinder Mahal/Singh brothers backstage segment. The Twitter user also noted that Styles continued to sell the loss by knocking over the ring step.
I don't know it was shown on TV, but AJ stuck around a bit after his match. He was really selling his loss. Even kocking over the ring step pic.twitter.com/Co0VJrdlCs
