Oba Femi Crowned New NXT Champion

Oba Femi WWE NXT Champion

There’s a new name at the top of the mountain in NXT as Oba Femi has captured championship gold at New Year’s Evil.

Oba Femi earned an NXT Championship match after he came through the Iron Survivor Challenge at Deadline defeating Ethan Page, Je’Von Evans, Nathan Frazer, and Wes Lee in the process. That win came two months after Oba Femi lost his NXT North American Championship to Tony D’Angelo and he’s not hung around in claiming another title.

However, there was a slight spanner in Femi’s works as he wasn’t granted a one-on-one match with Trick Williams for his title as Eddy Thorpe slithered his way into the match. Thorpe was meant to be part of the Iron Survivor Challenge but was taken out backstage allowing Oba Femi to take his place in that match.

However, while the hunt was on for Thorpe’s attacker, General Manager Ava granted him a shot at Williams’ title as his opportunity had been taken from him. After Thorpe signed the contract for the match though, he revealed that there had been no attack and he’d set the whole thing up to get a title match without having to battle four other stars.

At New Year’s Evil, the triple threat title match took place with the hard-hitting action boiling down to Femi being caught in the middle with Trick Williams loading up his knee on one side of the ring and Thorpe clinging to a steel chair on the other.

Femi saw Williams coming and was able to duck out of the way leaving the NXT Champion to hit the chair Thorpe was wielding slamming it into his head. Williams was then dropped with a pop-up powerbomb from Oba Femi as a new NXT Champion was crowned.
