Two NXT stars have made an appearance on the main WWE roster having competed on Main Event.

Ahead of the October 10th edition of WWE Raw, the company held the weekly Main Event tapings. During the show, NXT stars Carmelo Hayes and Von Wagner took part in singles matches.

Carmelo Hayes has had an impressive career so far. Soon after debuting in 2021, he won the NXT Breakout Tournament, defeating Odyssey Jones in the final. This earned him a shot at the North American Championship which he won on his first attempt. He went on to hold the title twice with his second reign lasting 101 days before he was defeated by Solo Sikoa.

Main Event was only Hayes’ second appearance in a main roster ring, having previously teamed up with Trick Williams in a SmackDown dark match, unsuccessfully attempting to defeat The Viking Raiders.

This time, however, things were different as he took on former Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander. The pair had a highly competitive match which ended with Carmelo Hayes being able to take the win with his ‘Nothing But Yet’ leg lariat.

Things did not go so well for three-year NXT veteran Von Wagner, who faced R-Truth – who was accompanied by Shelton Benjamin – in a match that went under five minutes. Wagner dominated much of the short bout, but when he decided to take the turnbuckle pad off, things went downhill quickly.

The referee spotted the dismantled turnbuckle and, as he sorted it, Benjamin gave Truth a chair. This allowed R-Truth to pull an old Eddie Guerrero spot by throwing the chair to Von Wagner and pretending he had been with it. The referee fell for the ruse and awarded Truth the DQ win.
