NJPW have confirmed that Sakura Genesis will return to its schedule this April after a year’s hiatus.

Whilst everyone has been getting back to normality more and more, it has taken some extra time in Japan with restrictions such as cheering at wrestling events only recently being lifted. However, it would seem NJPW have taken another step to get back to normal by confirming that Sakura Genesis will return on 4th April 2023 at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall.

The event will also be the culmination of a four date tour which has been called Road to Sakura Genesis, which will start on 1st April.

The e has run since 2013, although was originally under the name Invasion Attack until it was rebranded in 2017. The event traditionally sees the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship defended, which has happened on all except one of the events.

The last Sakura Genesis took place in 2021, and was headlined by Will Ospreay defeating Kota Ibushi to walk away with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. The event also saw Roppongi 3K win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, picking up the win over the Suzuki-Gun combination of El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru.
