Michael Cole Named Best Announcer By WWE Legend
A legendary WWE superstar has shown his appreciation for Michael Cole.
Michael Cole has been a part of WWE since he started as a backstage interviewer in 1997. Before that, Cole was a legitimate news reporter who decided to give WWE a try. As the years went on, Cole started calling matches and became the voice of SmackDown for most of its
By the 2010s, and into this current decade, Michael Cole became WWE’s lead announcer after the legendary Hall of Famer Jim Ross got older and his career was winding down in WWE.
In this current WWE landscape with Paul “Triple H” Levesque calling the shots as the Chief Content Officer, Cole has been praised a lot by WWE fans because he gets to be more of himself and isn’t restrained by the ridiculous rules that existed when Vince McMahon was in charge.
Matt Hardy is a future WWE Hall of Famer who had many of his matches called by Michael Cole. On a recent episode of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt praised Cole for being the best pro wrestling announcer in the business today.
“This is almost judging him over his whole body of work. I mean, I would almost say the most consistent guy, which I really like a lot now, and I think he’s grown and he’s learned, and he has really embraced it, I would almost go with Michael Cole.
He came from the news. I remember him being there, and he would always come to guys. He would ask them about things we were doing in the match. He would look for insight. Then once the more he got a grasp of pro wrestling, the better he became at it. He’s the head guy now that kind of runs things there when it comes to the announcers and whatnot. To me, he stands out.”
As he continued, Matt spoke about the legendary Jim Ross, who works for AEW on a part-time basis, and went back to praising Michael Cole.
“You know, JR is there, and JR is obviously a classic, especially when he was younger and whatnot. JR had so many lines that stuck out. JR, even though he still does commentary from time to time, it’s not very often, but he’s great. Obviously he is getting very much towards the end of sitting behind the desk. Right now, for someone who is in their heyday and still a full-time guy, I would say Michael Cole.”
Michael Cole Heading Back To WWE Raw With Pat McAfee
The WWE commentary teams have changed several times over the last few years. Since September, Michael Cole has been calling SmackDown with Corey Graves. However, that’s going to change soon because Cole is heading back to Raw for the January 6th debut on Netflix with Pat McAfee by his side.
Three big matches have already been announced for that January 6th episode of Raw with Cole and McAfee on the call:
- Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat Match
- Liv Morgan defends the Women’s World Title vs. Rhea Ripley
- CM Punk vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins
