Legend Not Returning To WWE: “Worked Too Hard For My Legacy To Be Tarnished By 50% Less Pay”
A WWE legend recently made comments about his return to the Stamford-based promotion.
TKO’s contract restructuring following WrestleMania 42 has become one of the most controversial topics in wrestling today. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods were reportedly asked to accept significantly reduced deals despite having years remaining on existing contracts, with both men declining and walking out the door.
The 25-person roster purge last month added more names to that conversation. The broader message from TKO has been consistent – reduce costs, reshape contracts, accept the new terms, or leave. That environment has made several veterans outside WWE even more resolute in staying away from the company, and one name has just made his position clear again. That name is Dustin Rhodes.
Goldust will never return to WWE again
Dustin Rhodes portrayed the Goldust character across multiple stints in WWE dating back to the late 1990s, returning five separate times to the company over a career spanning three decades. He joined AEW in 2019 shortly after his last WWE contract expired and signed a long-term deal in 2024 that keeps him with the company through 2030, working both as a performer and a backstage coach.
In February 2026, Dustin bluntly shut down WWE return speculation, saying he never received a raise during his entire WWE tenure and that Goldust “ran its course,” and he had done the best work of his career in AEW. This week, a fan on X/Twitter asked whether Goldust would ever come back, given the current situation.
Dustin Rhodes’ response cut straight to TKO’s pay cuts, and he wrote:
Worked to hard for my legacy to be tarnished by 50% less pay. NOOOOO! Won’t say it again. Love ya and ty for asking though.

The former WWE Intercontinental Champion has previously committed to finishing his career in All Elite Wrestling, calling it the only place where he has ever felt genuinely respected.
The Natural has been sidelined since July 2025 following double knee replacement surgery. It remains to be seen when he returns to AEW TV.
