WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has explained why he fully understands why Vince McMahon saw big things for one WWE star.
For the first part of 2022 Austin Theory was closely associated on-screen with then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The presence of McMahon was his first regular on-screen role in the company in several years and marked Theory as a superstar in waiting.
At WrestleMania 38 Austin Theory competed in a featured match against Pat McAfee, the seeds of which were sewn when McMahon made a rare public appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. The aftermath of that bout saw Theory help McMahon defeat McAfee in an impromptu bout, leading Stone Cold Steve Austin to make his presence felt, laying out Theory and Vince McMahon one more time.
At Money In The Bank, Austin Theory came out on top in the men’s ladder match, claiming with it the briefcase and guaranteed title shot despite being added at the last minute to the bout. A few weeks after that win the WWE landscape changed forever when Vince McMahon announced his retirement.
Theory’s on-screen presence diminished and in early November Theory’s Raw career hit a nadir as he attempted to cash in his contract on Seth Rollins’ US Title but lost the match. Redemption came at Survivor Series WarGames as Theory captured the US Championship showing that his future is still bright on Raw.
Speaking to Bill Apter for Sportskeeda Wrestling, Kurt Angle commented on Austin Theory and says he understands why Vince McMahon was seemingly so high on him:
“I’m impressed by this kid and I understand why Vince McMahon loved him so much. He’s the whole thing. He has everything. He can talk, he’s got a great look, he can wrestle. This kid was groomed by Vince McMahon when he started and rightfully so. That’s what Vince McMahon did with me as well. I think this kid has a huge future, and he’s going to be a dominating wrestler in the future.”
On the 5th of December edition of Monday Night Raw, Austin Theory retained his WWE US Title after he defeated Mustafa Ali, albeit by disqualification.
