Kenny Omega Could Face Familiar Face At Forbidden Door

Kenny Omega

New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that four former IWGP US Champions will compete in a tournament to find Kenny Omega’s next challenger for that very title.

Kenny Omega was the very first IWGP United States Champion and he is currently in his second reign with that title after he defeated Will Ospreay for the gold at Wrestle Kingdom 17. And Ospreay just so happens to be one of four men competing in a tournament to find Omega’s next challenger.

The announcement was made on social media with Lance Archer, Juice Robinson, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Will Ospreay all involved. Archer will take on Robinson on the 16th of April at Collision in Philadelphia while Ospreay and Tanahashi will clash at Resurgence on the 21st of May. The two winners will meet at Dominion on June 4th to determine Omega’s next challenger.

There is no confirmation as to when the title match will take place but all eyes will surely be on the Forbidden Door supershow which will take place on June 25th.

As well as his history with Ospreay, Kenny Omega has also had plenty of experience dealing with NJPW’s Ace, Hiroshi Tanahashi. Tanahashi defeated The Best Bout Machine at Wrestle Kingdom 13 for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in Omega’s last match in the company for four years as he left to pursue his career in AEW.

Kenny Omega last defended his title against Ospreay’s United Empire colleague Jeff Cobb on the 29th of March edition of Dynamite.
