Jon Moxley Has Taken AEW Star Under His Wing

Jon Moxley talking into mic

Jon Moxley and Sami Callihan are looking to elevate the career of Marina Shafir.

Moxley has established himself as one of the veterans in AEW following lengthy careers in WWE and on the independent scene. It is Moxley’s work ethic and commitment that have gained him a huge amount of respect in the AEW locker room.

Fellow veteran of the ring Sami Callihan, who recently became a free agent after departing IMPACT Wrestling in September. Callihan was a part of the promotion since 2017 and reigned once as the World Champion. Now looking to elevate women’s wrestling even further, Moxley and Callihan have begun mentoring Marina Shafir.

Callihan recently appeared on Cultaholic’s podcast to discuss his involvement with Wrestling Revolver, the former IMPACT World Champion revealed that he and Moxley have been working closely with Shafir:

“100 percent (I put together the Marina Shafir video package for The Wrestling REVOLVER’s Women’s Grand Prix). Marina is a project that me and (Jon) Moxley have kind of taken under our wing. She is someone we think can be extremely pivotal in the business and she’s that next evolution of professional wrestling.

Shafir has a background in MMA and was one of the four Horsewomen of the sport alongside Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler and Jessiymn Duke. Callihan continued the praise of the AEW star by stating that she will break through into the mainstream in the near future:

“All these girls wanna talk about, ‘Oh, I’m a badass. I’m a badass.’ If push comes to shove, Marina Shafir is one of the baddest out there. A remarkable athlete, a pioneer in women’s MMA and I think she is just, just on the cusp and just realizing how big of a star and how incremental she could be to professional wrestling and I think she is gonna continue to get better and better and better and better and grow. One of my favorite women professional wrestlers to watch right now and such a person that has a good head on her shoulders…”

Jon Moxley’s Match In Doubt Following Grand Slam

However, at the last minute, the former World Champion announced that he was not cleared to compete and announced that Rich Swann would be his replacement.
