On Thursday, WWE made huge announcements concerning each of their Raw, Smackdown and NXT commentary teams. When the dust settled, Raw’s Jimmy Smith would no longer have a job doing play-by-play for the show, and was let go from the company completely.

Taking to Twitter, Jimmy Smith reacted to WWE’s decision and confirmed that he was done with the promotion, also showing gratitude to fans.

“Just wanted to say, now that the story is officially out, that my time with the WWE is officially done. Had a lot of fun and met some great people. Really and truly blown away by the acceptance from the WWE fans! You folks make it work every week and your enthusiasm was amazing!”

The news was first reported by Variety on Thursday.

Last Month, Pat McAfee went on a temporary hiatus from his Smackdown duties with WWE to join ESPN’s “College GameDay” commentary team. Now, WWE has made major changes to its own.

Here is how the new broadcast teams will look for all WWE programming:

  • Raw: Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves
  • Smackdown: Michael Cole and Wade Barrett
  • NXT: Vic Joseph and Booker T
  • “Major Live Events”: Michael Cole and Corey Graves

A former MMA fighter, Jimmy Smith is known for other hosting and commentary roles in his past other than WWE Raw. Smith was the host of “American Ninja Warrior,” as well as a former co-host of Discovery Channel’s “Fight Quest.” Along with Raw, Smith has done commentary for UFC, Bellator and Premier Boxing Champions.
