Why IYO SKY’s Fiance EVIL Didn’t Join WWE Main Roster
It was reported last week that EVIL had signed a contract with WWE.
The Japanese wrestler, who is IYO SKY’s fiancé, ended his nearly 15-year tenure with New Japan Pro-Wrestling in January, where he won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship once.
Last Tuesday, NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo was featured in a backstage segment with GM Robert Stone and talent Keanu Carver when he received a mysterious package with a Japanese inscription on it.
D’Angelo asked Carver if this was his doing, to which Carver claimed no accountability. However, he informed him that it was a warning sign and he should watch his back.
On April 28, D’Angelo came to the ring and touched upon the recent WWE releases. In doing so, he said that while other wrestlers came and went, he has been the constant on the developmental brand.
He said he also wanted to discuss the box he received last week, claiming that he knew it was a warning. Before he could say anything else, the lights in the Performance Center went out.
An unfamiliar theme song played, to which a hooded figure sauntered toward the ring. There were chants of EVIL heard from the live audience, but the commentators did not acknowledge him by name.
After the hooded figure revealed himself to be the former NJPW star, Vic Joseph simply called him a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Some reports claimed that the 39-year-old might adopt a new ring name in WWE.
Meanwhile, EVIL simply handed the NXT Champion a t-shirt before bowing and exiting the ring.
According to a report by Cory Hays of Bodyslam.net, EVIL requested to start his journey in the company with the developmental brand.
EVIL is starting in NXT at his own request.
Multiple WWE Wrestlers Make Their NXT Debut
The April 28 taping of the developmental brand may have been a defining moment in the careers of several WWE wrestlers who made their NXT debuts, including EVIL.
Lizzy Rain, who is the niece of English rock band Iron Maiden’s late drummer Clive Burr, made her first appearance in a match against Nikkita Lyons. In a pre-match video, Lyons acknowledged new wrestlers coming to steal her spot, which she intended to keep.
However, despite her best efforts, Lyons lost to the 28-year-old after being hit by her ‘Thunderstruck’ finisher.
Also on the show, Tristan Angels confronted NXT North American Champion Myles Borne after the latter’s successful title defense against DarkState’s Saquon Shugars. In addition to working in the independent circuit, Angels is also known for his appearances on EVOLVE and AAA Lucha Libre.
Kam Hendrix, fka Anthony Luke, attacked Myles Borne while he was distracted by Angels, hitting him with a uranage slam. Hendrix is popular among fans of EVOLVE and LFG. He is also married to WWE star Maxxine Dupri.
After EVIL left the ring, Tony D’Angelo was taken out by Tavion Heights, who seems to be transitioning into a heel. However, what happened next is what took everyone by surprise.
An unnamed male jumped to the top of the turnbuckle and hit D’Angelo with moonsault. On commentary, Vic Joseph did not seem to know the person, as he debated if it was a fan. Turns out it was a British wrestler by the name of Will Kross, who has performed in the UK independent scene as well as Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.
