IYO SKY & Husband React To Making WWE History With Their Marriage
Former WWE Women’s Champion Iyo Sky and her husband Naraku have made history.
The former NJPW IWGP World Heavyweight Champion EVIL recently signed with WWE and has debuted on the NXT brand as Naraku.
Even though Naraku is 39 and has been a pro wrestler for over 15 years, he reportedly wanted to go to NXT to learn more about WWE’s style before joining the main roster down the road.
Another thing Naraku has going for him is that he’s now the husband of WWE legend IYO SKY. The couple was married recently and shared the news on social media.
On a personal note, we would like to announce that NARAKU (formerly EVIL) of WWE and IYO SKY (formerly Io Shirai) of WWE are now married”
We began our professional wrestling careers in Japan, each seeing different landscapes and ‘skies,’ but starting this early summer, we feel a deep sense of connection and joy at becoming colleagues and comrades as we take on the same stage—WWE—across the ocean.”
From now on, as a married couple, we will support each other in our daily lives. As WWE ‘Superstars,’ we will share both the lonely ‘darkness’ and the glory, lifting each other up and striving to shine even brighter.”
IYO SKY has worked for WWE since 2017, using the name Io Shirai until it was changed to IYO SKY in the summer of 2022.
In her WWE career so far, Sky is a 2-time WWE Women’s World Champion and a 3-time Women’s Tag Team Champion.
IYO SKY And Naraku Are WWE’s First Married Japanese Couple
There are many married couples in WWE and have been for decades, but the duo of Sky and Naraku have the unique distinction of being the first Japanese couple to be married Japanese superstars who also wrestle.
While speaking to Model Press, Sky and Naraku shared their thoughts on being the first Japanese married couple in WWE.
Naraku: “I’ve only just started, so stay tuned for what’s to come.”
Iyo: “Although I’m the senior WWE Superstar and have been in the U.S. longer, staying on the front lines competing against the world in a foreign country like America is truly, truly grueling. I’m so happy that we’ve created an environment where we can support each other through that life as a couple. We plan to continue working hard together, supporting one another without letting our guard down, and pushing each other to grow even stronger.”
Iyo Sky also talked more about the marriage.
“We haven’t actually registered our marriage just yet, but the reason is that we’ve finally become colleagues at the same company. Until now, we were in different rings, and as wrestlers and superstars, we were independent of each other, so I felt there was no need to deliberately share details of our private lives
Now that we’re both under the same WWE contract—colleagues within the same company, so to speak—I really wanted to take this opportunity to let everyone know that we’re now a married couple.”
