Backstage News On Injuries To Kenny Omega & CM Punk

CM Punk

A new report has shed some light on when we are likely to see Kenny Omega and CM Punk make their returns from injury.

The injury list has been racking up over the last few months, with plenty of top stars ending up on the treatment table at critical times. Whilst things have eased slightly on that front with the return of Bryan Danielson who had been unable to compete at Forbidden Door, the likes of Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly are still on the sidelines.

One of the worst timings for an injury was that of CM Punk. Having picked up the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing, he was forced to step away from the ring less than a week later, announcing on Rampage that he would be taking time off to recover from injury. He finally returned on the 10th August edition of Dynamite, facing off with interim title holder Jon Moxley after his successful defence against Chris Jericho.

Whilst some have questioned how serious the injury actually was given the way he appeared on Dynamite, Punk had commented himself recently that he’d had foot surgery and was “re-learning to walk”.

A new report from PWInsider has backed up the injury, stating that CM Punk is only recently out of a walk boot and was in substantial pain up until a few weeks ago. It also notes that his return to television shouldn’t be seen as a sign that the injury was a work, and he is not expected to wrestle in the build-up to All Out in September.

The report also discusses the imminent return of Kenny Omega. With ‘The Best Bout Machine’ himself saying he hopes to be back in time for All Out, the report comments that Omega is expected to be the surprise partner for The Young Bucks as part of the Trios Championship tournament. Omega has been out of action since losing the AEW World Championship in November 2021, taking time to heal numerous injuries.
