“He’s Gone” – WWE Superstar’s Future Confirmed
This WWE star has confirmed the d*ath of his previous character.
Matt Cardona wrestled as Zack Ryder in WWE, a name he worked under between 2007 and 2020 during his first run with the company.
During his tenure, he held the Intercontinental and US Championships once each.
Cardona was released by the Stamford-based promotion in 2020 as part of budget cuts brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He returned to WWE officially as Matt Cardona on the first SmackDown of the year and even appeared in the Royal Rumble match
He most recently got involved in the Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton feud for WrestleMania 42 and tried to talk some sense into Orton after The Viper destroyed Rhodes a few weeks ago.
Instead of sympathising, Orton called Cardona out to the ring, faked an apology, and proceeded to completely decimate him last week on SmackDown.
WWE Star Matt Cardona Opens Up About His Zack Ryder Character
When stars were offered 5 year deals at the tail end of the 2010s, Cardona refused to take it, eventually leading to his release from the company.
He shared all this and much more on his latest appearance on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? Podcast.
Cardona fondly remembers his portrayal of Zack Ryder but admitted that the character had to d*e to make Matt Cardona live.
The Long Island Iced-Z. Rest in peace, through. He’s gone. Zack Ryder needed to d*e for Matt Cardona to live.
Cardona gained a lot of credibility in the independent circuit, where he was even called the Indy God, following his initial release from WWE.
