Heartbreaking Update On AJ Lee’s WWE Status
A big update has been given about AJ Lee’s WWE future.
It was at the WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE in September 2025 when AJ Lee made her WWE in-ring return as she teamed up with her husband, CM Punk, to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins in a matchup of WWE power couples.
Even though Lee didn’t wrestle in WWE for ten years, she looked like she hadn’t missed a beat.
Lee wrestled four matches after Wrestlepalooza. Lee was on the winning Women’s WarGames team at Survivor Series, she beat Becky Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Title at Elimination Chamber, beat her friend Bayley in a match on Raw, and then Lee lost the Women’s IC Title back to Lynch at WrestleMania 42.
In a lengthy post on Instagram, AJ Lee wrote a message that many fans took to be a WWE goodbye.
“Allow me to be sappy and then forget this ever happened. Rebecca, you’re selfless, hilarious, and pure joy to spar with. Thank you for keeping me safe and making me better. Jess, thank you for being a true partner in our matches and always calming my anxiety. Carla and Aoife, I fell in love with wrestling again by seeing it through your eyes. I’m so proud to be a teeny part of your journey. You’re way cooler and more talented than I ever was. But I still have to kick your asses one day.
Pam, you’re the undisputed GOAT. Thank you for going out of your way to help me train, to make every show so f’ing fun, and for healing my jaded heart. To all the women in the locker room, I admire and respect you so damn much. You are my wildest dreams for women’s wrestling come true. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and supported and dealing with my obnoxiously loud laugh.”
If you’re wondering who Pam is, that’s the real name of WWE superstar Bayley. She is a close friend of Lee. AJ also mentioned her WrestleMania entrance that featured dozens of little girls dressed like her.
“To my AJ Leegion, my mania entrance was a love letter to you, and to every girl who will become her own superhero. Thank you for supporting me for two decades, selling out my merchandise, giving me record-setting views, and making Converse a small fortune with your AJ cosplay. Your passion kept me coming back. Stay weird, see you soon.”
AJ Lee’s Current WWE Run Is Over, But A Future Return Is Possible
As for what’s next for AJ Lee, Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that Lee is done her WWE responsibilities for now, but she could be back later this year.
“According to sources, AJ Lee has wrapped up her current run with the company and as of now isn’t scheduled for anything in the near future. We’re told her return isn’t officially considered over, but there is some caution that it could be a while before we see her back in action again.
One source did speculate they’re hopeful a SummerSlam program materializes, although no further details were available regarding the possibility of this at that time.
So she has come in, returned, wrestled a few matches mainly with Becky Lynch, takes a loss at WrestleMania and now, according to a source, isn’t coming up anytime soon.” (H/T Ringsidenews)
Everything went well for Lee in her WWE return, and she could certainly return in the future, but if she chooses not to, that’s up to her.
