Hall Of Famer Defends Cody Rhodes’ Controversial Words On WWE SmackDown
A WWE Hall of Famer sympathizes with what Cody Rhodes said during a segment on SmackDown.
In the main event of WWE SmackDown on February 13th, Cody Rhodes beat Sami Zayn and Jacob Fatu in an Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match.
During the match, Drew McIntyre interfered to take out Fatu and to try to prevent Cody from winning, but Cody found a way to beat his friend Zayn with a Cross Rhodes.
Sami Zayn spoke with Cody Rhodes backstage on SmackDown in Fort Lauderdale. Cody said he has nothing to be ashamed of about last week’s loss. Zayn said if anyone should be ashamed, it’s Cody. Zayn said he tried to help Cody deal with Drew McIntyre, and Cody hit Cross Rhodes on Zayn to win.
While defending himself, Cody said it was an opportunity he took advantage of. He added that you have to take advantage of those opportunities, and that’s why Zayn hasn’t been WWE Champion. The fans let out an “ooohhh” because they know how much Zayn wants to be WWE Champion. Zayn said, “There it is.”
Zayn said Cody got to finish his story, but Zayn has been trying to finish his for 10 damn years. Cody shouted at Zayn, saying he lost the WWE Title when he tried to do the right thing. Cody told Zayn that the only thing in his way was himself, referring to Zayn. Cody left.
After Zayn knocked a water bottle to the ground, Trick Williams walked up to Zayn and said, “With friends like Cody Rhodes, we don’t need enemies.” Trick said he’s going to get the job done, unlike Zayn. Trick laughed and left.
After Trick’s appearance, Zayn walked up to Cody and apologized. Zayn said everyone knows Cody is going to be the WWE Champion again. Zayn added that this time, don’t forget you had a little help along the way. Cody said he wouldn’t forget and left.
Mark Henry Feels Cody Rhodes Was Being A Good Friend To Sami Zayn
Cody Rhodes’s comment that Sami Zayn had never been WWE Champion sounded like a personal shot, which many people would consider mean, given how much it means to Zayn to be WWE Champion. However, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry saw it differently on Busted Open Radio, calling it the best part of SmackDown.
“The best thing that happened in the show was Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn – their confrontation in the back. Cody, I thought, was in the right in this promo because it was him correcting his friend, and getting him out of his own head.
Because those are the things that play in your head when you fail. ‘Am I good enough?’ ‘Why is the world always conspiring against me?’ ‘Why…why…how did I lose?’ ‘And when am I gonna get a break?’ It’s like all that negativity sometimes will poison the Kool-Aid.”
And Cody was basically like not having it. So that was my part of the show where I got fired up and I started saying to myself, ‘Damn, I wonder if the people watching, if this touched them in any kind of way.’ Because sometimes you need a good talking to. Hell, I have to get one myself every now and then.”
