GUNTHER’s Next Intercontinental Title Challenger Revealed On RAW

GUNTHER’s coveted Intercontinental Title will be on the line on the October 16th edition of RAW.

At the conclusion of the October 9th episode, WWE hyped up next week’s episode of RAW, which is being promoted as a season premiere of sorts.

As part of that big event, WWE announced four big matches for the show. And perhaps the most important of these is GUNTHER’s next Intercontinental Championship defense, which will be against Bronson Reed.

Reed earned the right to challenge GUNTHER by beating Ricochet and Chad Gable in a match to determine the next championship challenger. Reed pinned Ricochet with a Tsunami splash.

This will be a new challenge for the current champion as most of his challengers up to this point have been either smaller than him or close to him in size.

Reed, however, is different. Although he’s shorter than the champion, Reed outweighs him by a good 30-40 pounds.

Is GUNTHER the greatest WWE Intercontinental Champion ever?

GUNTHER’s first and current reign is the longest in the title’s history. As of this writing, the man formerly known as WALTER has held the IC title for 486 days.

However, if he really wants to call himself the best IC Champion ever, then he still has to beat three other men who have held the title for more combined days.

Those three men whose multiple reigns are longer than GUNTHER’s current reign are: Don Muraco (539 days between two reigns), The Mix (592 days between eight reigns), and Pedro Morales (617 days).

If the current IC Champion wants to beat all of those reigns without losing his title, then he has to hold it until the middle of February 2024, past both that year’s Royal Rumble and No Way Out on February 16th.
