Gunther Goes Off On WWE Personality After Royal Rumble
Gunther told a WWE personality to “get a life” after complaining about a recent match result.
At the WWE Royal Rumble in Riyadh, Gunther defeated AJ Styles in a match where it was agreed upon that Styles would retire as a WWE superstar if he lost. While many WWE fans may have thought Styles would win the match to continue his career until WrestleMania, that didn’t happen. Gunther made Styles pass out in the Sleeper.
By defeating Styles in a career-ending match, Gunther has now defeated three WWE legends in their last match – Goldberg in July 2025, John Cena in December 2025, and now AJ Styles.
On the WWE Now post-Royal Rumble recap show with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant, former 2-time World Champion Gunther had a strong reaction when Morant expressed sadness about AJ Styles’ WWE career ending.
“Maybe that’s the issue. Maybe you’re on the wrong side of the barricade, then, because you don’t seem to get it. Because this is not Disneyland, this is professional wrestling.
This is a cutthroat business. This is where the younger eat the older, and that’s just the reality of it. And everybody needs to kick out of that fairytale mindset for another life moment. Get a life. Focus on results. Focus on money. That’s what this business is about, and that’s all I care about.”
During Gunther’s comments, Morant stayed silent with a shocked look on her face.
Gunther Explains The Motive Behind Retiring WWE Legends
Also on the same show, Gunther explained why he needs to keep retiring WWE legends.
“Yeah, but the question is like ‘What do you get out of it?’ What does everybody get out of it? It’s like, I’m doing a good service to the sport, to the business of professional wrestling, because there’s always guys, they overstay their welcome, they chase another moment, and nobody takes the time, invests their energy in stepping up to them and make them understand, “Hey, get out of here. You’ve done your thing. It’s time to move on.” They take moments away from people far greater like myself. So, that’s what it is.
In addition to the victory over AJ Styles, Gunther was also the runner-up in the Men’s Royal Rumble, which was won by Roman Reigns.
