Goldberg Names His Toughest Ever Opponent

Goldberg

Speaking in a new interview, Goldberg has named Brock Lesnar as the toughest opponent that he’s ever faced in WWE.

While the WWE Hall of Famer has stood across the ring from some of the biggest and baddest wrestlers in recent history, he says one name stands out above all others.

In conversation with Gaelyn Mendonca from WWE India, Goldberg was asked who has been his toughest opponent since he debuted in WWE. The former World Champion went straight to Lesnar, saying that facing The Beast was like going up against himself.

“He is a breed of his own,” said Goldberg. “I’d like to say that he is an extremely similar character to mine. Mainly because that’s who we are – that’s truly how we are. One is a good guy, one is a bad guy – but not much of a difference. He is like going up against myself. I see that in Bobby Lashley too, but a younger version of myself.”

Goldberg and Lesnar famously met at Madison Square Garden at WrestleMania 20, in a match that neither remembers fondly. However, the pair faced off again at Survivor Series in 2016, with a returning Goldberg shocking his rival in less than two minutes.

The two men reconvened at WrestleMania 33 a handful of months later where Lesnar got revenge for his earlier defeat, reclaiming the Universal Championship.

Goldberg returned to WWE on the July 19th episode of Monday Night RAW, immediately confronting WWE Champion Bobby Lashley.

In the weeks that followed the WCW legend challenged Lashley to a match at SummerSlam. On the most recent episode of the red brand, with the match now confirmed, MVP and Lashley ran down the latest challenger. MVP, still feeling the effects of a Spear from the week before, said that Goldberg’s son had the chance to talk him out of facing the champion.

While Lashley was emphatic about what lay ahead for the former World Champion. The All-Mighty snarled that at SummerSlam, Goldberg isn’t next, he’s done.
