“Frustration” In AEW Over Jeff Hardy

A new report has shed some light on the backstage feeling towards Jeff Hardy in AEW, claiming that there has been “frustration” with the star since as early as the beginning of April.

At the end of 2021, Jeff Hardy left WWE in acrimonious fashion, with reports circulating that the reason for his release was that he had refused to enter rehab. As had been expected by most, ‘The Charismatic Enigma’ reunited with his brother Matt when he debuted in AEW on the 9th March edition of Dynamite.

However, Hardy has now made the headlines once again and for all the wrong reasons. On 13th June, he was arrested on multiple charges for driving under the influence, with his alcohol levels seemingly being almost four times over the legal limit. Footage has also since emerged of him drinking whisky at a concert earlier in the evening.

Fightful Select has now reported on the knock-on effect Hardy’s arrest has had within AEW and the impact on the future direction of the tag team division. The initial move was to pull The Hardys from the Road Rager Tag Team Championship ladder match, which ended up just taking place between Jurassic Express and The Young Bucks.

The report also claims that a lot of consideration had been given to putting the title belts on The Hardys prior to Double Or Nothing.

However, there had also been rumours circulating that Jeff Hardy had appeared intoxicated at more than one event during the WrestleMania 38 weekend, which had caused “frustration” within AEW.

It is also said to have caused alarm that Jeff Hardy took a knock to the head early on during The Hardys Tag Team Champion, with his brother Matt since claiming that Jeff cannot remember the match. After this point, talks within AEW turned to The Young Bucks becoming the next champions rather than The Hardys.

Fightful’s report closed by saying that whilst AEW is obviously concerned for the wellbeing of Jeff Hardy, there is also a reasonable amount of frustration that there is the possibility of a repeat of the current situation.
