Former NJPW Star Makes NXT Debut; Sends Message To Tony D’Angelo
WWE NXT has multiple open spots on the roster now, with the recent wave of call-ups to the main roster, which saw several stars of the brand move up to RAW or SmackDown.
The men’s division has witnessed the departure of three of its top stars as Ethan Page and Joe Hendry moved up to RAW, while Ricky Saints is set to appear on SmackDown later this week.
One of the few remaining veterans of the brand, current NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo came out to the ring to address the fans as he brought up the box that was delivered to him last week.
He spoke about how curious he was to know who sent it to him, and before he could say anything, the lights went out in the arena before turning back on as a hooded figure made their way to the ring.
EVIL makes his WWE debut tonight on NXT
The figure made a grand entrance as everyone tried to identify the person beneath the mask. He walked up to D’Angleo and handed him a scroll that had the same Japanese symbol on it as the box D’Angleo received last week.
He then took off his mask and was revealed to be former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, EVIL. The Japanese star had been tipped to sign with the promotion since his contract with NJPW ended, and he made his WWE NXT debut tonight.
EVIL delivered a simple message to D’Angleo and headed back to the ring, but the night didn’t end there for the champion. He was attacked from behind by Tavion Heights before being hit with a moonsault by someone who accompanied him.
