Finn Balor Discusses Match He Wanted To Do With Bray Wyatt

Finn Balor has commented on the death of his friend Bray Wyatt and a match that the two men wanted to do.

When it comes to bringing creative, alternative personas to WWE, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt did just that in their WWE careers. Starting in his NXT days, Finn Balor would transform into the “Demon” Balor that had red paint on his body and became almost unstoppable in the ring since he won nearly every match as The Demon.

As “The Demon” Balor, Finn won the Universal Championship in a match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2016, which is the only WWE “World” Title win in Balor’s career up to this point.

Following WrestleMania in 2019, Bray Wyatt had a major character change when vignettes aired and he became a new character called “The Fiend,” who wore an evil mask. At SummerSlam 2019, Wyatt wrestled as “The Fiend” and defeated Balor in a dominating fashion.

Balor and Wyatt had matches where Balor as The Demon beat Wyatt while The Fiend beat Balor, but they never had a match in their alternative personas.

At the WWE TLC 2017 pay-per-view, it was supposed to be “The Demon” Finn Balor against Wyatt as Sister Abigail, but it didn’t happen because Wyatt was sick with meningitis and AJ Styles faced Balor instead. WWE never went back to that Balor-Abigail match idea.

Finn Balor reveals a match he really wanted to have with Bray Wyatt

The wrestling world has been devastated by the death of Bray Wyatt on August 24th. A funeral was held on Wednesday last week for the former WWE & Universal Champion, who was beloved by many, especially his peers like Balor.

In an interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, Finn Balor spoke about the loss of Bray Wyatt and the match that they really wanted to do.

“Yeah, it was a pretty somber atmosphere in the locker room. I had a couple days following the news. A lot of us attended a ceremony in Florida yesterday. You know, celebrate Bray’s life, and you know, sadly that seems to be happening far too often in the business, losing people so young, but hopefully we can continue to make Bray proud. I’m sure that’s what he would want and that’s what we intend to do in Nassau.”

“Obviously I’d had the opportunity to work with him a lot as Finn versus Bray, as the Demon versus Bray, as Finn versus The Fiend. The one thing that I’m sad that we didn’t ever get to get to was this Fiend versus Demon match and that was something that we talked about at length. We were kind of hoping that was going to happen eventually, but you know, it’s not to be.”

“Going back to the show must go on, you know, if something was to happen to me, I want you guys to know that I want the show to go on, and I’m sure knowing Bray as well as I do, he definitely wanted the show to go on and then that’s what we’ve done for him.”

As for present day WWE, Finn Balor is thriving with The Judgment Day group and he recently became a WWE Tag Team Champion for the first time with Damian Priest as his tag team partner. Balor is now “Grand Slam Finn” since he’s held the Universal “World” Title, Intercontinental Title, US Title and now the WWE Tag Team Titles as well.
