Why Female WWE Star Had To Slap Sheamus Backstage

Sheamus WWE

A backstage interviewer in WWE recalls a time when Sheamus asked for a slap to the face.

Sheamus is a future WWE Hall of Famer who has won every major championship in the company except for the Intercontinental Title.

The powerful “Celtic Warrior” is currently out of action after shoulder surgery, and there’s no timeline for his return to the ring, but hopefully it’s coming in 2026.

During an interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, WWE backstage interview Jackie Redmond recalled an interesting backstage moment where Sheamus told her to slap him because he couldn’t get his promo right.

“One time I was doing a backstage (interview) with Sheamus and he wasn’t feeling it. We had done a couple and he wasn’t happy with them, and he was like, ‘Jackie, slap me.’

I actually got really nervous, I was like, ‘No I can’t actually slap Sheamus, like I can’t do this.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, slap me.’ I slapped him. It was a b*tcha** slap, it wasn’t a good slap, I got scared.”

Sheamus Wants To Keep Wrestling

At 47, the 4-time WWE World Champion Sheamus is one of the older superstars still active in the company, so the question about wrestling retirement comes up when he does interviews. However, the proud Irishman has said he wants to keep wrestling for as long as he can because it’s a lifelong dream he loves.

Sheamus will forever be linked to John Cena because when he won his first WWE Title, it was against Cena in a Tables Match in December 2009. In a recent interview about one month before Cena’s WWE retirement, Sheamus made it clear that he wants to keep wrestling.

“I think it’s the intensity that’s something that I’ve always leaned into, and that’s really what sets me apart. I feel like that’s why I’m still in the game. You know, people talk about John Cena retiring, and I think he’s like a year older than me, and I feel like I’m just getting started. Last week, I was in there with JD [McDonagh], man, and just ripping it up.

The day I don’t go out there and give 100% or give it everything that I possibly have every single match—I don’t care if it’s RAW, SmackDown, NXT, or if it’s Main Event that they tape before the show—I won’t go out there and not give everything I have in every single match, and especially with my neck.’

A neck injury has sidelined Sheamus in the past, but he just keeps on going, and will likely keep getting slapped backstage as long as it helps him perform.
