One former WWE NXT star is working full time behind the scenes in AEW.

Chris Hero hasn’t wrestled since March of 2020, when he took part in a battle royal as part of NXT UK. He was unsuccessful at earning a shot at the NXT UK Championship, and he was released from WWE in April of 2020 amidst budget cuts as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 17th, Hero was reportedly backstage for the debut episode of Collision and was being evaluated for a backstage role in the company. At the time, he was expected to work with the company on a trial basis, though no official job title was reported. The report also noted that while he hasn’t wrestled since his WWE release, he is not retired and is waiting for the right opportunity to return to the ring.

What Is Chris Hero’s Role In AEW?

Now, an update from PWInsider reveals that Hero has been hired as a full time producer for All Elite Wrestling, and that he’s gotten “high marks” for his job performance according to backstage sources.

The 43-year-old is a longtime veteran of professional wrestling, beginning his career in 1998. He made a name for himself on the independent wrestling scene in the 2000’s and also made waves in Ring of Honor, where he formed the Kings of Wrestling tag team with current ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli.

Hero worked for WWE under the name Kassius Ohno on two separate occasions, first from 2011-2013 and later from 2016-2019.
