Ex-WWE Star: “I Was Trying To Wrestle, Not Do Bikini Contests”
This former WWE Star made it clear that her priority was wrestling.
Back in the 1990s, during WWE’s most famous and beloved period, The Attitude Era, women would work as valet girls and managers, but rarely as athletes and competitors in the ring, unlike the WWE of today, which has an almost equal women’s division with versions of all the men’s titles.
One such star from this period is Jacqueline, who was known for her bold bikini segments and also her wrestling.
Jaqueline is famously known for her bikini contest with former WWE star Sable, videos of which still do the rounds online and are popular among wrestling fans.
In a recent interview on the Going Ringside podcast at River City Wrestling Con, Jaqueline opened up about not having any interest in bikini contests and cleared up the fact that shw as always a wrestler first.
WWE Hall of Famer Jaqueline Says She Was A Wrestler First
Although Jaqueline admits that she played along with the bikini contests as she understood the entertainment value it brought to the fans back then, and was a part of the product’s presentation at the time, she still says she was a wrestler first and spent 3 decades in wrestling without a single injury.
There wasn’t a lot of women back then wrestling,” Jacqueline said. “But we were out there for the fans putting on good shows, and we worked really hard to put on good shows. It was very special back then. A lot of people said they enjoy the Attitude Era. That’s where I was in, and it was just a lot of fun back then.
About her bikini contest with Sable, the WWE legend said that she enjoyed it, but that wasn’t what she intended to do.
I’m a wrestler. I was trying to wrestle, not do bikini contests. I mean, I look great. A lot of people told me I look great. So I was very happy about that. But everybody loves Sable. She was a fan favorite. She’s a big babyface. So yeah, it was fun.
She went on to say that Sable was very professional, and it was great working against her.
“She was a fan favorite. Everybody loves Sable. It was great working against her. She was very beautiful, very talented. She was a great wrestler. She was tall and she did really good in the ring.”
Jaqueline also famously pinned Chavo Guerrero to win the Cruiserweight Championship, which was a men’s title.
