WWE are close to making another new signing.

Despite previously claiming he wasn’t planning to leave AEW, Malakai Black was written off television, and he left the company on February 10.

Black, who was known as Aleister Black while with WWE, has been linked with a return to the sports entertainment giant for several months, and it seems that speculation is about to come true.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed Black will be back with WWE “imminently.”

Aleister Black should be returning imminently.

The same report added that WWE is making plans for Rey Fenix, despite the star still being under contract with AEW. There have recently been claims that Fenix has been in talks with Tony Khan to end his AEW stay, but there’s been no word on how those talks have progressed.

Malakai Black Has Lengthy History With WWE

After starring on the independent scene for more than a decade both in Europe and in the United States, Black signed with WWE in 2016.

The star debuted on television early the following year, and in April 2018, he won the NXT Championship after getting the better of Andrade. Although he eventually lost the gold, Black moved to the main roster in 2019.

However, he failed to hit the heights he enjoyed in NXT and was ultimately released in June 2021.

Black’s wife, Zelina Vega, still works for the company and regularly wrestled on Raw before being moved to SmackDown in January 2025.
