A former WWE star has describe a meeting he once had with Vince McMahon.

Kevin Fertig wrestled for the WWE for a couple of years. He had two runs with the sports entertainment juggernaut. During his first run in the company, he played the character Mordecai. However, he failed to get over with the fans.

During his second run with the WWE, Kevin Fertig played the role of Kevin Thorn on the Stamford-based promotion’s version of ECW. He struggled to get over again and was moved back to Ohio Valley Wrestling before he eventually asked for his release. He then continued to wrestle on the independent scene.

During an interview with SoCal Val of WrestlingNewsCo, Kevin Fertig described a meeting he had with Vince McMahon to pitch his Mordecai character. He revealed that Vince McMahon was staring a hole through him during the meeting that it made him nervous. The former WWE star tried to stare back at Vince as hard as he could. And just as Kevin was about to pitch his idea, Vince interrupted him and said he wanted singles wrestlers.

“I go and sit down in front of Vince, and he’s got his readers on, and he’s just staring a hole through me. And I was like, all right, I’m not looking away from this guy. I’m gonna try to stare back as hard as I can. I know that he’s already reached my soul somehow, and he’s ripped it out. And he’s like, okay, what do you see yourself here? And I’m like, well, me and Tomko are doing this, and I think we could do this. And he goes, no. He goes, I don’t want tag teams. I want singles wrestlers.”

Kevin Thorn opened up about quitting WWE

During the same interview, Kevin Fertig opened up about how he finally quit WWE. He said he went into John Laurinitis’ office in Baltimore and quit. He said he asked for his release because he was frustrated with his booking.

“I pretty much wanted in and quit in Baltimore. Not a lot of people know that. I went into Johnny’s office and said I’d had enough and stuff, because I was, you know, working with Freddie Prinze Jr., you know, Dusty down in, you know, FCW. And basically, man, I just, in Baltimore, I saw that it wasn’t gonna happen because all that went on, and I was like, I worked my a** off to get back within X amount of time. I did all this stuff, and then now here we are again. And I, you know, out of frustration and everything else, went in and asked for my release.”

Kevin Fertig’s last wrestling match took place on 8th March 2026 when he teamed with Gangrel to face the team of Cameron Jackson and Christopher Prince.
