Ex-Champion Open To WWE Return After Years Of Absence

A former champion in WWE would be open to having a behind-the-scenes role in the company.

The WWE career of Hornswoggle (real name Dylan Postl) was a unique one. Hornswoggle was signed by WWE at the age of 20 in 2006 and went on to have many memorable moments.

Perhaps the most memorable storyline in which Hornswoggle was involved was in 2007 when he was revealed to be the illegitimate son of Vince McMahon. The storyline was initially planned for Mr. Kennedy, but an injury and out-of-ring issues changed that, which led to the more comedic reveal involving the “little person” Hornswoggle.

It was later revealed in the storyline that Finlay was actually Hornswoggle’s father, but this was just a storyline because they aren’t related. They were paired together for years, with Hornswoggle pushed as a “leprechaun” of sorts due to Finlay’s Irish heritage.

In late 2024, Hornswoggle signed a WWE Legends Deal, and he also appeared at WWE World at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas for a fan signing.

During a recent interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, Hornswoggle talked about the WWE Legends Deal and how he found out about it when going with his son (who is much taller than his father) to see a Blink-182 concert.

“The legends deal, man, it nostalgia. It’s a WWE nostalgia deal. They don’t call me a legend anymore.”

“Legitimately, Landon and I were on our way to see Blink-182. I get the call, I literally had to pull over, and I just froze. You know me, you know how I view me through these interviews, a lot of people know how I view me. I don’t view myself as very great in wrestling. So to have that recognition is the ultimate. This is pretty f*cking awesome.

It just makes me feel like I mattered in WWE with this now, that it wasn’t a got rid of me, released me, which is okay. No one deserves a job. That’s my thing.

Whenever people get released, internet goes crazy about ‘How could they do this?’ No one in any workforce deserves a job. You’re lucky to have that, especially that kind of job. And so now to be back under a legends deal, it’s incredible. It’s just like the coolest thing ever.”

Hornswoggle Would Love A New Role In WWE

In his post-WWE life, Hornswoggle helps to run a wrestling promotion, makes appearances everywhere, and loves to talk about his son. His son plans to become a wrestler some day as well.

As for a WWE return, Hornswoggle likes the idea, although he thinks he might be better suited for a behind-the-scenes role.

“I would love to. The producing thing is probably my mindset more than in-ring, I’d love to do that. You never know. Never burn a bridge. They gave me 10 years living my absolute dream and paying me well, letting me provide for my son. No reason to burn that bridge.”

During his WWE career, Hornswoggle only won one title: The Cruiserweight Championship. He won it at the age of 21 in 2007, and the title was retired for many years after that.
