Ex-Champion On WWE Firing: “One Of The Best Days Of My Life”

A former WWE champion could not be happier after getting fired.

Brian Myers (formerly known as Curt Hawkins) joined the Stamford-based company in 2006. His first run lasted eight years before he was released in 2014.

In a recent interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Myers opened up about his release, revealing it was one of the best days of his life because he had been miserable at the time.

Yes, one of the best days of my life. Because I was so young, they weren’t using me for, at that point, almost a year and a half. That’s why I started the school, because I was just miserable. They would not call me for two months, three months at a time, and they’d be like, You’re not coming to Raw. It just wasn’t comfortable. Plus, when you love something and you’re being paid to not participate in it, it’s just not a great feeling.

So I was thrilled, I got fired on Thursday, I wrestled Friday, Saturday on these shindies in New Jersey, and I couldn’t have been happier. That said, my goal was to get back, and I did it two years to the date, I want to say it was. [H/T: CVV]

Brian Myers Was Heartbroken By His WWE Release During COVID

Two years after his release in 2014, Brian Myers returned to WWE. The 41-year-old had another four-year stint, during which he had a historic losing streak.

However, the current TNA star was released again in April 2020 as part of the COVID era budget cuts. In his interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Myers confessed to having completely different feelings about his second release.

That one I still have a little sore spot over because no wrestling company fired anyone in that time but WWE. The most powerful, richest one. I thought that was a little strange, and I had just signed this contract. I was very blindsided by it. But like most things, it was like a blessing in disguise. [H/T: WrestlePurists]
