Ex-AEW Star Not Yet Signed By WWE

AEW

A former AEW star is not yet believed to be signed by WWE despite reports suggesting otherwise.

During his time in AEW, Brian Pillman Jr. aligned with Griff Garrison in 2020, forming the Varsity Blonds. They were joined by Julia Hart, who eventually left the group after being lured into the House of Black. While the faction made sporadic appearances on Dynamite and Rampage, they were mostly relegated to Dark and Dark: Elevation, and Pillman hasn’t wrestled on television since the February 1st episode of Rampage, where he lost to Swerve Strickland.

It was towards the beginning of July that Brian Pillman Jr. was removed from the AEW roster on the company’s website, with confirmation soon after that he had departed. It didn’t take long for the generational star to resurface, as he was spotted at the WWE Performance Center just days later with reports at the time saying that whilst he was definitely there, it was more as a “get to know you” meeting than a formal tryout or contract offer.

Has WWE snapped up the former AEW star?

PWInsider reported that Pillman Jr. had indeed signed with WWE but Dave Meltzer writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now cast some doubt on that. Meltzer noted that sources in WWE “believe he hasn’t been signed, [and] that no creative involving him has been talked about.”

It was also noted that Brian Pillman Jr. is still undergoing medical evaluations with WWE and unless the company “discover something bad” then the star will be signed according to Meltzer.
