Ex-AEW Champion Removed From Roster Amid Expected WWE Move
This AEW star could be on his way to WWE
A star was recently removed from the roster page of the Tony Khan-led promotion after the Jan 17th episode of Collision.
The star in question is Powerhouse Hobbs, who wrestled his final match for the company on said episode in a trios bout alongside Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata against the team of Hangman Page and JetSpeed (Kevin Night and “Speedball” Mike Bailey) for the former team’s AEW World Trios Championships.
Hobbs lost the bout for his team and was pinned by Knight after being hit with a sunset flip, ending his team’s 264-day title reign.
Powerhouse Hobbs Could Move To WWE From AEW
The removal of Hobbs’ name from the main roster page only confirmed doubts that fans have had about his future in the Jacksonville-based promotion post his contract expiration.
WWE has reportedly been interested in Hobbs for years. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Hobbs turned down a recent AEW contract and could well be moving to WWE to pursue his next chapter.
WWE had expected that they had Hobbs for actually quite a while… AEW made an offer. He turned down the offer, wanted to go to WWE.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, it seems likely that Hobbs could be a WWE star soon, as his obligations with the Tony Khan-run promotion have officially come to an end.
