Drew McIntyre Had Multiple Reasons For WWE Absence

Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre has explained why he took a break from WWE programming before making a surprise return.

One of the biggest WWE rivalries of 2024 involved Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. The two men would go on to have an incredible Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood in Atlanta, which left McIntyre a bloody mess while Punk got his hand raised as the winner of the match to put an end to the personal rivalry.

CM Punk did a promo on Raw after the match about how he was going to take a break because of the emotional and physical toll of the rivalry. That led to Punk being off television for about a month and a half.

The return of Drew McIntyre took place at the end of Raw on December 2nd when he nailed Sami Zayn with a Claymore Kick. McIntyre stood over a fallen Zayn to end the show.

In an interview with KWCH 12 Morning News, Drew McIntyre said that he was away from WWE for two months to rest up and also due to a personal reason.

“I was off the past two months. My last match was a Hell in a Cell match, a very brutal match. I got hit in the head at one point and needed sixteen staples to close a wound at the top of my head.

I suffered a family loss as well so I went back to Scotland to deal with that and re-evaluate my priorities and realize that I have probably given a bit too much to my profession, to my colleagues, and not enough to my family. I kind of realized I’ve been giving a bit too much for the past 17 years and it’s time to start taking a little more.

My mentality is I’m going to take what’s mine, I’m going to beat up the people who deserve to get beat up.”
