Damian Priest has expressed how he felt about wrestling in a big Raw main event match against Edge in Toronto in August 2022.
The main event of the August 22nd, 2022 edition of WWE Monday Night Raw took place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. It was a huge match since Edge got to wrestle in a singles match in his hometown of Toronto for the first time in over a decade.
There was also a lot of history going into the match since Edge and Priest were the founding members of The Judgment Day at WrestleMania 38 last April. A few months later, Edge was kicked out of the group after Finn Balor, Rhea Ripley and Priest attacked him. That feud is still going on to this day.
Edge beat Priest on Raw in Toronto in a 20-minute match that was very good and well-received by a hot crowd that was happy to see Edge get the win.
While speaking to Witty Whittier on YouTube, Priest talked about how special that match with Edge was to him.
“That was a special one. To this day, it’s going to be hard to top that. I’ve had great moments and great matches with Balor, Sheamus, Drew McIntyre, tons of guys that are top notch performers, but this is main event of Monday Night Raw, in Toronto, against Edge in his first singles match in like a decade on Raw. It’s Edge, a Hall of Famer, a mentor, we were friends, not friends on air. There was a lot of emotion that went into this match.”
“We went out there and I’m grateful, so grateful we were able to deliver. When you talk about somebody who has a limited amount of matches left and you’re one of the people granted an opportunity to work with that person, it’s a lot of pressure and an honor. A lot of pressure in the fact that I can’t fail.”
Damian Priest would go on to talk about how big the match was for him while saying it was like a WrestleMania-type situation.
“It’s a WrestleMania-type situation, you can’t fail at this. I’m glad we went out there and we banged. We threw heavy leather and did the best we could to put on a great performance for the fans. The fans were awesome and we were hyped. I don’t think there was anything that could stop us from going out there and having a banger. To this day, it’s my favorite match I’ve had in my WWE career.”
This past Monday on the January 9th edition of Raw, Damian Priest and his teammates in The Judgment Day won a lengthy gauntlet match to earn a Raw Tag Team Title match against The Usos at an undisclosed date in the future.
