Cody Rhodes Considering Bringing Back Stardust After 9 Years

Cody Rhodes Stardust

Cody Rhodes wants to bring back Stardust.

Rhodes’ Stardust character debuted on June 16, 2014, on WWE Raw. Inspired by his half-brother Dustin Rhodes’ Goldust persona and their father Dusty Rhodes’ legacy, Stardust featured cosmic-themed face paint, a bodysuit, and eccentric mannerisms. Initially, he teamed with Goldust, and the duo won the WWE Tag Team Championship. However, Stardust’s solo run failed to take off.

The character was seen as bizarre and cartoonish, which many fans and critics disliked. Despite Rhodes’ dedication and strong performances, creative frustrations mounted as WWE stuck with the gimmick for nearly two years without meaningful storylines. The American Nightmare reportedly pleaded to end Stardust for over six months but was ignored.

The gimmick’s failure and lack of creative freedom led to Rhodes requesting his WWE release in May 2016, marking the end of Stardust. The character remains a low point in the WWE Undisputed Champion’s career, but he still recognizes that it helped shape his journey.

While talking to special guest Becky Lynch on his What Do You Wanna Talk podcast, Cody Rhodes mentioned he’s thinking about bringing back Stardust if he hits a certain milestone with his podcast show. He hasn’t set the exact goal, but suggested the resurrection of Stardust would be a special reward tied to his podcast’s success.

I had this idea for. And I’m gonna put this out into existence. I had this idea that if I set a milestone with the podcast, and I don’t know what that milestone is, that I would do a bonus episode interviewing Stardust. I would do a bonus episode. I don’t know what the milestone is, but I’ve started thinking. I don’t know, maybe we could lure… I don’t know. (From 2:41 to 3:03)

Cody Rhodes and John Cena’s Rivalry Is Over

Speaking on the Rosenberg Wrestling podcast, Peter Rosenberg stated he believes the rivalry between Cody Rhodes and John Cena is over because their story has been told fully. After a heated back-and-forth culminating in high-profile matches and title changes, he thinks there’s no need for more encounters, as the narrative reached a natural conclusion with Cena’s babyface turn, leaving little room for continuation. He sees their feud as complete and unlikely to be reignited soon.

I just think him and Cody’s done. That was the to me I think we saw the end of him and Cody. That was it. The story’s been told,” he said.
