CM Punk stunned many when he turned up backstage at WWE Monday Night Raw when the show that he last appeared on in January 2014 rolled into his hometown of Chicago.

Punk is believed to be on the verge of a return to AEW as the cornerstone of the company’s impending Saturday night show after last appearing in the company in September 2022 at All Out before the infamous backstage fight with The Elite occurred.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reported that CM Punk was backstage at the Allstate Arena for Raw but was eventually asked to leave. Now Fightful Select has offered more insight into the situation with a report that states Punk spoke to Triple H before the company’s head of security Jim Kelly asked him to leave – although exactly who asked Punk to go has not been confirmed but the former WWE Champion is said to have left “without incident.”

Several WWE stars are said to believe that Punk’s backstage appearance was a publicity stunt due to his impending AEW return. Several stars in Tony Khan’s company were said to be in “disbelief” over Punk’s actions.

CM Punk famously walked out of WWE following the 2014 Royal Rumble leading to a protracted series of events that saw the star eventually given his contract termination on the same day as his wedding to fellow ex-WWE star, AJ Lee.
