How CM Punk Really Felt About WWE RAW Promo With Roman Reigns
CM Punk has shared his true feelings about his memorable WWE RAW promo exchange with Roman Reigns.
Roman Reigns won the WWE Royal Rumble on January 31 in Riyadh. It was the second time in Roman’s career that he won a Rumble match. As a reward for winning the Royal Rumble, Reigns gets to pick which champion he will face at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
On WWE Monday Night Raw in Philadelphia, Roman Reigns was in the ring talking about his possible WrestleMania 42 opponents – Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre or World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.
Before Reigns could officially announce his choice, CM Punk confronted Reigns in the ring, and what came next was a memorable promo exchange between two future Hall of Famers.
While Punk said he was there full-time, Reigns said Punk is only doing that because he feels guilty about leaving WWE for a decade. The promos from both guys drew strong reactions from the Philadelphia crowd. At the end of it, Reigns said he chose Punk’s World Heavyweight Title, and Reigns made it clear that part of the reason he chose him is that he hates Punk and wants Punk to acknowledge him.
When CM Punk spoke to The Ringer Wrestling Show, he talked about the depth of the WWE roster.
“I think going into that, everybody had an inkling of what should be the main event of WrestleMania. You take the two biggest stars – to me it’s a no brainer – but you never know what’s going to happen. You know, I think our talent roster is so deep.
There are guys on any night, can main event, can headline a WrestleMania. Looking at Cody. Don’t like saying anything positive about Drew McIntyre, he’s a piece of s**t, but he is the Universal (WWE) Champion.”
Punk actually misspoke because Drew McIntyre is the Undisputed WWE Champion. The Universal Championship was retired in 2024. As he continued, Punk spoke about more deserving superstars.
“And there’s a Rhea Ripley, there’s an Iyo Sky. You know, the men’s and women’s locker room are so stacked that on any given night, anybody can main event.”
CM Punk Felt He Had WWE Crowd In The Palm Of His Hands
“But I do think there’s an undercurrent. Look at the board and all the players on the field and you can go, ‘Yeah, I want to see these two guys.’ I think me and Roman encapsulate that. Live in the ring with him in Philadelphia, great hostile city…great wrestling crowd. Knowing that I got them in the palm of my hand and we’re doing our verbal dance.
I thought the reactions were great. I thought the feeling was excitement. It was heightened. And, you know, he got what he wanted and I’m getting what I want. So it’s going to be a hell of a showdown. I can’t wait.”
